Television, magazines, and newspaper articles are becoming  increasingly conscious of food values. More and more we see healthy foods being promoted over junk foods. Statistics from a number of Western Countries show a steep rise in obesity and diabetes as well as heart disease and many forms of cancer. All these things have been with us for hundreds of years but never before in the numbers we are experiencing today.

Most researchers and scientists are in agreement as to the cause of these modern-day diseases i.e. TOXINS from the air in polluted cities, from sugar, salt, bad fats and highly processed refined foods. Our bodies were simply not made to take these foods over a long period of time. Our bodies need roughage, fruits and vegetables – our digestive  system needs to work hard, not be lazy and sluggish by digesting only refined foods.

Individually we can’t do much about the pollution in the big cities of the world but we can cover our bases with the foods we choose to eat.

I’m pleased to see that on Google+  there are many thousands of people joining health communities, seeking a healthier lifestyle. I hear what some of you are saying, your folks ate junk food and lived to a ripe old age – sure some people can eat anything and not be affected by the modern-day diseases – they are the lucky ones but sadly, many thousands are dying  needlessly with terrible side effects  that are preventable.

This is an excellent reference for anyone who has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Mike Smith not only gives good background information about the food in the recipes, but they are easy to follow. As a therapist who has worked with clients with this diagnosis, this is a timely book. Eat right and change your life. BGV

I am fairly finicky about the foods I eat and always check labels for content before buying. I’m also very conscious about my cholesterol levels and when my brother told me about this book, I bought it. I’m glad I did, the recipes are healthy AND tasty as well as quick to put together so it fits in with my busy lifestyle. I’d buy more food books from this author.

I work in the food industry and am always looking for good books that both provide me with information I didn’t have before and are interesting to read. I loved the book on both counts!! I think that Mike C Smith has truly done his research and I cannot fault any of the information that he has given (my dietitian sister backs me up on that one). I got very involved in the book immediately and didn’t put it down until I finished it. I hope there are more books from you Mr Mike!

I haven’t had this book long but I’m thinking it has the power to change my life. Or at least help me change my lifestyle. The meals are super tasty and so easy to make – they really do only take minutes – and I can already see a difference in the way I look and feel. I particularly like the fact of knowing I’m eating something that is good for me without sacrificing great taste – plus I can have lots of it.

I was attracted first by the title of this book as I am a busy individual who has become increasingly interested in improving my health by eating healthy foods. I suddenly realised one day that I was doing myself no favours by calling in at the local fast food outlet on my way home from work. The meals in this book are so easy to make and so tasty that I am already breaking my old habits in favour of tossing together a healthy meal when I get home. It only takes minutes and the meals are so flavour-some that already I am not missing my unhealthy fix and am feeling better for it. Thank you Mike C Smith for some terrific recipes, I’ll be looking out for your next book.

Today, there are so many of us that need direction to eat healthily and this book delivers. The recipes help control weight but at the same time, are flavoursome and easy to cook. I like the fact that they include superfoods, that improve memory and energy.
