Got the travelling bug

Doing the things you want. This year My wife and I made up our minds that we wanted to travel to several countries. This is a record of our on going trip from New Zealand to Europe and beyond.

First port of call

Hong Kong, population 6.8million, Gateway to China.

Arrived in the early morning of 2nd April, 2012.

Stayed at the Kowloon Hotel. The room was small, even after a requested upgrade but extremely comfortable. The upgrade included an excellent breakfast plus a private lounge with free coffee all day and afternoon tea from 4.00-6.00pm followed by happy hour from 6.00-8.00pm with nibbles and free wine.

On the first day I was caught by a tailor’s spotter who lured me into the tailor’s shop, where I ended up purchasing six custm made shirts and a pair of jeans. I paid a 50% deposit and then the owner came in and measured me for the clothing items. I was then asked to come back later that day to check the measurement for the jeans, at which time minor adjustments were made and I was told the garments would be ready for me to collect the following day. That was a turn around of approx. 28 hours from start t finish. Pretty great service, I thought and the workmanship, first class. If you’re in Hong Kong I highly recommend this tailor. You will find him at Shop 22b G/F Hankow Centre, 5-15 Hankow Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong kong. (MTR Exit L1.) Find out more about Imperial Bespoke Tailors at or email them on Tel (852)2111-19
Be aware that prices are always negotiable in Hong Kong and have fun and enjoy.

Hong Kong is a thriving modern city of immense wealth and one of the leading banking and commercial centres of the world as well as a major tourist destination. If you like shopping, Hong Kong is the place to visit. You will find the finest, most beautiful jewellery, watches, handbags and accessories and, if you enjoy Asian foods, Hong Kong offers some of the world’s best eating places. You do however take a health risk if you choose to sample the street stall foods. The locals are used to the food but inexperienced visitors can experience stomach upsets which will no doubt ruin your holiday. The same applies to drinking water so drink only bottled water.

One of Hong Kong’s tallest buildings, can you see the window cleaners ?
