Quick Ways Lose Weight

I Want To Lose Weight

Every year thousands of people get onto diets; thousands try and fail and the older we get the more difficult it is.  There are simply hundreds of diets available on the internet, from best ways to lose weight fast, can I lose weight, quick ways lose weight, which is where many go looking for that magic but often elusive formula.

The human race is built in many different forms and shapes and we all react to different foods in different ways. Some lose weight by eliminating carbohydrates; others by removing protein from their diet. There seems to be no one diet that fits all and yet there is one weight reducing diet that appears to suit a wide section of the population and I’m on it now.

The diet I am on is a study being run in six countries by the medical division of six universities – one in each country – it involves 2500 people across the participating countries/universities and its objective is to test two types of diet on people who may be prone to diabetess at some future date and are also overweight.

Moden Day Disease
Diabetes has become a major health issue in many western countries; in particular the USA, UK and Australia. The health cost of treating diabetes runs into many hundreds of millions of dollars.

Given the choice, most would prefer to be fit and looking good; being obese is no barrel of laughs, impeding as it does on our quality of life and creating a greater risk of poor health issues and a shorter life expectancy.

International Study
The study I am involved in is different from most others I have known; it is designed for the participants to lose at least 8% of their body weight in the first eight weeks. Those of us who succeed in losing the required 8% or more get to continue on a three year maintenance program.

This maintenance program is our key to success. During this time we will create a lifestyle that will help us maintain our weight and avoid or at least reduce our chances of developing diabetes.

I am told that it is in this stage of any diet that most fail. The weight is initially lost, only to be regained and often increased in the period following the first stage when the main weight loss is achieved. Without a strong awareness and determination to avoid going backwards again the old lifestyle must be left behind and a new one developed. This is achieved in maintenance.

Creating a new Lifestyle
Recreating ourselves is not easy. We need support and motivation to keep going. Will the family living at home accept a lifestyle change for the parent who is trying to maintain their new healthier weight? Will they accept a new eating regime that varies greatly from what they are used to?

I guess the secret will be to do it gradually without too much fuss; like stepping stones, take one at a time; smaller portions, more green vegetables, fruit always available. Use healthy oils for cooking such as olive oil or rice bran oil. They may be a little more expensive than the cheap oils, or should I say the unhealthy oils, but it’s all about changing the lifestyle that didn’t work.

Here are a few thoughts:
Get in the habit of using less oil when frying; remove fat from meat before cooking it; use more herbs to spice up the taste of foods; reduce the use of sugar, salt and white flour and discourage the use of packaged meals, gradually, without making a fuss of it. Avoid buying packaged potato chips or crisps and reduce fast food/takeaway meals.Don’t go after the quick ways lose weight. Do these things and you will succeed.
